A Collaboration with Royal Brunei Culinary (RBC)
I’m grateful for the opportunity to design the Raya Kek Batik Box for RBC in 2024. I've always wanted to design my own biscuit tin, as I have a soft spot for beautiful boxes—I cherish and repurpose them to store my trinkets.
This collaboration was one of the smoothest I’ve worked on. The brief was clear from the start: to create a festive, Brunei-themed design—something that felt entirely within my creative realm. I submitted my draft, which was immediately accepted with only minor tweaks.
For the design, I envisioned a serene and joyful scene featuring a kampong house surrounded by nature. Kampong houses are one of my artistic strengths, and this particular design was inspired by Istana Darussalam. I’m thrilled with how vibrant the final boxes turned out. RBC selected all three of the colour variations I proposed, including their signature royal blue.
I’m also especially happy with the tenunan patterns and motifs I incorporated, adding my own spin on the ayer muleh design along the sides of the box. I think it was the perfect way to balance the composition and break up the busyness of the box cover.
Happy to also share that the boxes ended up selling out!
